Leading Our World

This term, the learning theme for St Mary's is 'Leading Our World'. Primary 6 are working hard to become leaders of our world by taking part in the Circular Economy Challenge. We are lucky enough to not only be representing the school at the final event on the 14th of June, but also be representing West Dunbartonshire Council by being the only class in the authority taking part - oh what innovative leaders we are!

We had an input from Marie who works with Young Enterprise Scotland earlier in the month and P6 were very enthusiastic with their ideas and contributions. Since then, we have found out lots about what the circular economy is and why businesses need to follow this model so that we can live in a happier, healthier world in the future. Here are some photos from our trip to Young Enterprise Scotland's headquarters:

We are now working very hard to create our sustainable business ideas and will soon be pitching our business plans to our school panel of judges at assembly before the winning team go off to the final in June! Details of the assembly will be shared soon.

Visit to People's Palace

Visit to People's Palace

On Thursday 13th December, Primary 6 visited People's Palace in Glasgow to take part in a learning session about Scotland during World War 2.  Laura was our teacher while we were there and she was very knowledgeable about what life was like in Scotland during the war.

We learned about evacuation, air raids and rationing in an engaging way.  At the end, Laura said she very impressed with our behaviour and our knowledge that we already had.

We had fun exploring the World War 2 exhibit in the museum too.  Here are some of our pictures

Primary 6 Routines

Welcome to Primary 6!

Since coming back after the summer holidays, Primary 6 have been working hard to get settled in to their new routine. Here are a few notes to help ensure your child is organised for the week.

P.E.

We will have P.E. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays so P.E. kits should be brought in on a Monday and taken home on a Friday for washing. In the interest of safety, all jewellery should be removed prior to P.E. lessons.

Homework

Homework will normally be given out on a Monday and should be returned on a Friday.

Google Classroom

We will use Google Classroom to post homework, links to educational games etc. If you would like assistance in accessing Google Classroom at home do not hesitate to ask me.

Tullochan Trust

We are so lucky to be working in partnership with the Tullochan Trust this term. Many of the children in Primary 6 have signed up to be a part of their after school club. The children have been split into two groups and so, will be attending the club every second week. The club will provide opportunities for RSPB learning and lots of fun, team building activities.

Fridays

Primary 6 will be working very closely with Mrs Borzacchiello again this year and we are fortunate enough to have her in our class every Friday.

Finally

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns. I am sure we can all work as a team to achieve what is best for your child. Feel free to come and say hello at home time if you see me, it's good to get to know one another before parents' night.

Fun With Forces

Fun With Forces

This year we are lucky to have Mr Devaney in our school as he will be working with each class teaching STEM - Inspire and Challenge.  P6 undertook some activities where they learned about the laws of Physics by creating their own pendulums.

They were then challenged to answer questions by investigating the materials they were using.  Here are some of the learning videos that Mr Devaney showed to our class.

As you can see, we truly did have 'Fun with Forces'

Graffiti Name Tags

Graffiti Name Tags

Primary 6 have been showcasing their digital skills by personalising their own name tags for their tables.  We used the website Graffiti Creator to do this.

Why don't you have a go?
